Amberton University‘s legacy is deeply rooted in serving mature, working adults through flexible, relevant, and affordable education. Founded over 50 years ago, Amberton has consistently prioritized meeting the needs of students who balance career, family, and education responsibilities.

Taking the reins in a crucial transitional period, Dr. Palmer embodies Amberton’s values of practicality, affordability, and accountability. Faculty and staff consistently echo this sentiment, appreciating her strategic, student-focused direction.

Dr. Don Hebbard, seasoned professor and one of the founders of Amberton’s current Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, praised Dr. Palmer’s leadership style and effectiveness.

“Dr. Palmer understands Amberton,” he said. “She’s got great vision and a killer work ethic. We’re seeing a renaissance in the university, and she’s the catalyst.”

Dr. Ken Johnson, a veteran Professor and Coordinator of Amberton’s largest program, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, supports this model passionately.

“We don’t have assistants grading our papers or teaching our classes,” he stated. “Every faculty member at Amberton is directly responsible for their courses. We need to maintain quality and engage with students. Tenure can lead to stagnation. Here, we have to perform every year.”

This model has proven beneficial for Amberton, allowing the university to maintain a consistently high educational standard and cultivate a proactive academic culture.

Aligning Education with Industry Demands

Amberton’s new programs, notably in healthcare administration, finance, training & development, and applied artificial intelligence, reflect Dr. Palmer’s industry-responsive strategy. Faculty members were carefully selected to align teaching with professional expertise, ensuring courses reflect current premier practices.

Dr. Ron Norris, recently appointed Program Coordinator for Amberton’s new Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program, emphasized the importance of aligning academia with industry needs.

“Healthcare is a $50 billion industry in Dallas-Fort Worth alone,” Dr. Norris explained. “Amberton’s approach, integrating real-world experience from working professionals into the classroom, directly meets industry demands.”

Dr. Norris sees Amberton’s healthcare administration degree as a crucial response to a significant local industry gap, preparing students to immediately impact the healthcare sector upon graduation.

Sustaining Student-Centered Learning

A common thread among Amberton faculty interviews is Dr. Palmer’s commitment to maintaining a student-centered learning environment. This philosophy manifests in practical support systems, affordability, and personalized academic experiences.

Dr. Hill highlighted this core principle clearly: “Amberton understands the adult learner’s challenges and meets students where they are. Dr. Palmer has only enhanced this approach. It pushes us to deliver education that’s both flexible and directly applicable.”

Dr. Hebbard echoed this sentiment, noting, “Under Dr. Palmer, we’re seeing initiatives that improve our teaching and enhance our students’ career readiness. It’s education as it should be.”
