The critically acclaimed podcast There’s a Poem In That by Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated American poet Todd Boss returns for its much-anticipated second season. The podcast, known for its emotionally rich and intimate storytelling and unique way of uncovering the poetry within everyday life, launched this week with a new episode titled “Lisa Dances With Aphasia.”

The new season has a special Texas focus. Boss has relocated to Austin and interviews several fellow Texas-based guests, sharing stories from around the Lone Star State.

In There’s a Poem In That, Boss helps strangers discover the poetry hidden within their most intimate stories. Each 30-minute episode begins with Todd and the listener intimately hearing each guest’s powerful and deeply personal story, followed by the creation and reveal of an original poem inspired by what they have shared.

The result is a soul-stirring, transformative journey for both the guest and the listener, offering a poignant reminder of the universal beauty in our shared human experience. Nearly every episode is guaranteed to end in tears for Boss, the guest, and the listener.

The inaugural season, which debuted in the Spring of last year, touched hearts with moving episodes, including with Joan, a Long Island, New York-based vocalist-turned-composer who survived a historic train wreck but tragically lost three of her children—and later, her singing voice.

Another notable episode featured Phillip celebrating his U.S. citizenship with the help of Obama inauguration poet Richard Blanco and Holly, a mother who found a new hymn of grace after losing her son.

The new season kicks off with an episode featuring Lisa Smith, a stroke survivor from El Paso, Texas, who, despite the paralysis of her right side, dances her way through life with resilience and grace.

The retired ballet dancer and UTEP Dance Program Director shares her emotional journey with Boss, culminating in a deeply personal poem reflecting her strength and spirit to cross the border between the hemispheres of her mind and body. By the end of the episode, all parties, including the listeners, are profoundly moved.

Upcoming episodes this season will include a conversation with Kelly, a Dallas-based classical musician (bassoonist) grappling with the grief of losing her father. Kelly’s story and poem will be featured in an episode set to release on November 15, 2024.
