Kiss of the Spider Woman actor William Hurt has died at the age of 71, his son Will confirms.
Will wrote in a statement, “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”
Hurt had been suffering from terminal prostate cancer since 2018.
Hurt was born on March 20, 1950 in Washington, D.C. He attended Juilliard school alongside Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve. In 1977, he made his professional stage debut. He first appeared in film in Altered States in 1980, which also debuted a young Drew Barrymore.

On the topic, Hurt released the following statement:
“My own recollection is that we both apologized and both did a great deal to heal our lives. Of course, I did and do apologize for any pain I caused. And I know we have both grown. I wish Marlee and her family nothing but good.”
Hurt was nominated as Best Supporting Actor for his role in A History of Violence (2005), which became his final nomination. He continued to act in film, on stage, and in television. He reunited with his Big Chill co-star Glenn Close in 2009 on the FX drama Damages, where he earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Hurt eventually joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Secretary of State Thadeus Ross in The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: Civil War.
As if a callback to his role in the Kiss of the Spider Woman, Hurt’s final performance was in Black Widow (2021).
