It might be a new chapter in your life or even just a new goal you’ve set for yourself. If you are turning to fitness because you want or need it or because it’s something you see negatively about yourself, the best way forward is with the right trainer. Ovi Ilica has spent years developing programs, working to make each one better than the last, culminating in OviPhysiques. In an OviPhysiques program, clients can expect something that goes beyond basic personal training; Ovi gears his clients for long-term success instead of posing himself as a one-size-fits-all solution for their fitness needs.

A lot of people come into contact with a personal trainer for the first time because they want to lose weight. It’s not the only reason, but it’s the most common. Unfortunately, weight loss clients come from a place of insecurity. Societal expectations loom hard over people before they finally make a choice to get with a personal trainer, and Ovi knows the helplessness that comes from low confidence. Years ago, Ovi was laid off from his old job. Losing the method he had for keeping his family fed, he experienced despair, sadness, and frustration all at once. When it happened again, he knew that the same despair was not sustainable as a reaction; he had to find something he could be consistent with. Additionally, he felt mounting pressure to show his son that he was not a failure and that he could achieve his goals. With this in mind, he decisively created an LLC, looked for jobs in the fitness industry, and got certified in training and nutrition.

Ovi is a certified personal trainer and fitness nutritionist with both the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), as well as a Total Resistance Exercises (TRX) certified instructor. He’s helped hundreds of clients with their personal transformations, so he’s very aware of the motivations people have before coming to him. He knows that insecurity and despair can’t be the foundation where you build a long-lasting personal practice. It’s consistency that keeps people accountable and builds their confidence.

How many products have you seen sold to you as the perfect choice for your fitness or an instant fix? These products and services take many forms—pills, powders, cookbooks, miracle herbs, trendy climbing or hot yoga gyms, and personal trainers are just a few examples—and they rely on patients with indecisiveness and insecurity to sell their ‘miracle’ services. It’s a toxic industry for people who don’t know what they’re getting into. The difference between the quick fixes and OviPhysiques programs is the way they’re geared to their clients. Ovi makes sure that his programs set his clients up for the long term. He aims for clients to leave his services eventually because they have built up confidence. Those clients are some of the best advertising because of their transformations and outspoken support for Ovi. Other trainers or fitness trend products have a parasitic relationship with customers. They need you to stay insecure because if you think you’re the problem, you’ll keep hopelessly buying their product until it finally ‘works.’

Coach Ovi also uses positivity as the driving force in his programs. He knows that you can’t produce motivation or confidence out of thin air. Rather, you need to take skills that you’ve practiced or passions you hold and allow them to translate into the program. If you’re a corporate desk worker, you might not be confident in your deadlift, but maybe you keep the best schedule in your office. Ovi hears this and makes a program that keeps you regimented based on your method of scheduling.

Over the years as a trainer, Ovi has written over 800 fitness programs and coached over 7,500 classes for Orangetheory Fitness as regional manager and a dual head coach. He’s competed in seven men’s physique bodybuilding shows, including the NPC Nationals as well. On The Blox, a competitive reality show of dozens of small business owners, Ovi got to showcase his practice, and he will continue to help out in his community as a public-facing business owner.

His favorite part of the job is seeing how people change as their fitness transforms. No one should feel helpless or worthless, and their level of fitness should only be something to feel good about improving. When clients are able to socialize without the crippling anxiety of bodily insecurities, it’s a win for Ovi. He’s shown his son that he can accomplish anything with passion and consistency, and the message is contagious. As the brand grows, Ovi wants to hire more coaches who can positively personalize and move the fitness industry forward.
