Most fitness brands settle for either performance or style, but a former MLB manager and his orthodontist wife are redefining the game. This week, they unveiled CORE Sports & Fitness Apparel and CORE Fashion Collections in Rosharon, Texas, with a vision that pushes beyond the boundaries of traditional athletic wear.
The grand opening of their first CORE Sports, Fitness, & Training Center, housed within Porter’s Future All-Stars Baseball Development Academy, represents more than another entry into the crowded fitness market. It’s the physical manifestation of a vision that’s been years in the making, combining Bo Porter’s deep understanding of athletic performance with Dr. Heather Brown Porter’s expertise in precision and aesthetics.
“A healthy, balanced life is achieved when mind, body, and soul work in harmony,” explains Porter, who currently coaches for the Los Angeles Angels. His baseball career, which includes managing the Houston Astros and working as an MLB Network analyst, has given him unique insights into what athletes need from their gear. “We’re not just creating clothes; we’re building tools for performance.”
The presence of Angels outfielder Jo Adell at the opening ceremony underscores the brand’s connections to professional sports. But the fusion with high fashion sets CORE apart from traditional athletic wear companies.
Dr. Brown Porter, who has spent over two decades perfecting smiles at her Houston orthodontics practice, brings a different perspective to the brand. “In my practice, I’ve learned that confidence and wellness are deeply interconnected,” she says. “We’re looking to empower women globally to embrace their bodies and recognize the importance of health and wellness. This isn’t just about looking good but feeling powerful.”
The company’s manufacturing approach is equally ambitious. Unlike many new brands that outsource most of their operations, CORE has invested in controlling the entire production process. From initial design to final stitching, their team oversees every detail. This vertical integration allows them to maintain quality control while responding quickly to market trends.
Their product line spans an impressive range: high-performance athletic wear for serious athletes, training uniforms for teams, casual athleisure wear for everyday use, and high-end fashion collections for both men and women. The company’s tagline, “LET’S GET IT,” reflects its aggressive approach to market penetration.
“We recognized a gap in the market,” Porter explains. “Traditional athletic wear companies don’t understand fashion, and fashion houses don’t truly understand performance. We’re bringing both worlds together under one roof.”
The location of their first training center in Rosharon, just south of Houston, is strategic. Texas’s growing population and strong sports culture provide an ideal testing ground for their concept. The state-of-the-art facility features personalized training programs based on what Porter calls “scientifically proven approaches to long-term health and wellness.”
Industry analysts note that the timing could be perfect for CORE’s launch. The global sportswear market is projected to grow robustly, with increasing demand for products that can transition seamlessly from workouts to workplaces to evening events. Adding a high-fashion component could help CORE capture a unique position in this expanding market.
With this launch, the Porters aren’t just opening a gym or starting a clothing line – they’re building a lifestyle empire that inspires us to reshape how we think about the intersection of sports, fitness, and fashion. For a power couple who’ve already made their marks in baseball and orthodontics, this might be their boldest play yet. But given their track record of success in their respective fields, betting against them would be unwise.
